Dennis Wilson Bash poster by Mark London

Mark London

"All my posters are "paper songs". Hope you all dig what I've tried to do for you guys & Brian. I want the stuff that you take home from the shows to have some life & spirit, and above all bring back some cool memories of these very important moments in musical history." -ML (2001)

Dennis Wilson T-shirt by Greg LasonGreg Larson

"I got started making BB-related T-shirts kind of in a back door fashion. In 1996 I bought a SMiLE shirt that was being offered via the internet from a guy named Danimalist. I sent off my $20 or whatever and soon after had the neatest shirt possible. Three years later, in March of 1999, my girlfriend and I traveled to Minneapolis to see Brian on his first tour (side note: this was the first time Brian ever performed "Love & Mercy" during the encore...it was truly spontaneous this night). As has proven to be the case at all of Brian's shows Melinda was in the audience. During the intermission she was nice enough to sign this same SMiLE shirt which I was wearing that night. That was all good and fine but it also rendered the shirt useless for future wearings. And I really missed having that shirt in my wardrobe.

In the fall of 1999 I began exploring the ins and outs of what it would take to replace it. I began checking with silkscreeners in the area and found out that there was a lot more to making these, or any, shirts than I knew. SMiLE is quite elaborate and artwork and screens for this would cost $175 before a single shirt was even ordered. There was no way I could handle that expense so I did the same thing that had been done when I got my first SMiLE shirt; I put the question to the people of the Pet Sounds Mailing List (PSML) to see if others had any interest in getting such a shirt. That way I could spread this cost out and make the idea feasible. The answer was a resounding 'yes' and I was off and running.

Subsequently I've made other shirts featuring the "Great Spirit", two Carl shirts, Dennis, Brian and a special shirt for the PSML that people could wear and identify each other as PSMLers at Brian's shows during the Pet Sounds Tour of 2000. I do whatever I can to make my shirts unique and interesting. I cut no corners and only make the best shirts I possibly can. With reasonable care these will last a long, long time. Anyone interested in what might still be available can contact me." - Greg Larson 2001

The Boys In The Band painting by Dan Addington"Boys in the Band"
Dan Addington (c) 2001
oil on wood, 30"X40"

"That photo has always been my favorite posed group photo of the boys. I know, not a lot of people seem visually fond of the look of the boys from that period, but it was during this time, and especially this specific photo, that the LOOK of the group most clearly communicated the personalities of the group's individuals. In the late 60's, even after the striped shirts were long gone, the boys still often posed and performed in semi-uniform outfits...white suits, neck scarves...hipper, yes, but still attempting to look like a "group". By the time of the photo (early 70's) the boys themselves had really begun to define their own personalities, and that is SO perfectly illustrated in this photo. Check them out...Mike...one of the first to break from the "look" is still in full TM devotee robe and beard...and make note: the rare absence of a hat in a publicity shot. Brian is in a striped robe, a slightly chubby face, but not completely huge yet...the stubble and robe says..."I just got out of bed for this, and I'm going back when we're done"...the stripes of the robe recall a good humor ice cream salesman. Carl is in the tight-white-suit phase...Carl actually always liked the flashy clothes...HE was the guy that often really dressed like a rock star...sometimes w/ a country flavor, but I like the wide lapel embroidered suits he was wearing. Al is just wearing a sweater. Nuff said. Denny is Prime here...stripped to the shorts, hair long, clean shaven...really at his archetypal best. And Bruce looks like the stylish LA musical dandy that he is, with the Byrd-style mustache, the blow-dried hair, and the dress shirt. It's great to see all 6 in a picture, and at a time when their post-Brian music was at it's best and most creative. This painting is a tribute to the individuality of the members of the group, and to a much overlooked but musically important period in the band's history."

"I did the painting for the cover for the upcoming issue
of Open Sky Magazine. it's actually based on a photo in an old BB songbook I had years ago and just found recently at my dad's place...no good photo's in it, but there was this small, bad B&W of Dennis sitting at a piano and turning around looking, and although we have all these big, color shots that would have been easier to work from, I wanted to use something from the late 60's/early 70's, and this was just the right one, you know? I loved the slightly mischevious look out of the corner of the eye, the candid, unposed vibe of the image...so I just sat down and tried to get a likeness and a little color and life into it. It took about three sessions in the studio before I thought it was close to being finished, then I waited a few days, and came back for some final touches. it's oil on paper, and it's about 14" x 11". I still don't think I got the likeness absolutly right, but I enjoyed doing it..."

"Ed spent much of the 1970s working with the Beach Boys as a tour photographer and filmmaker ("15 Big Ones", the Beach Boys' history 1976 & Dennis Wilson's "The River Song" 1977). On the side, he worked with Frank Zappa, carrying on with his filmmaking by learning and working at New York's School of Visual Arts. The 1980's & 1990's saw Ed's work in video with artists like Sly Stone, Bobby Womack ("Bobby Womack & Sly Stone: Live At the Roxy") and Vince Neil ("Skylar's Song")." © Roach-clips.com

Linda Klarfeld

"Dennis Wilson"
Artist - Linda Klarfeld

The sculpture is 11 inches high and the colours are obviously taken from POB as they are so definable with Dennis (I think anyway). The pose was kind of taken from the Ed Roach photo on the cover of Dennis Wilson, The Real Beach Boy, as I really love that photo. Originally the sculpture had a shirt but both the sculptor (Linda) and I thought that it would look better with a T-shirt as Dennis wore T-shirts quite a bit during the mid seventies and we wanted to show off his arms. We chose a cut off T-shirt like the one Dennis wore on the cover of Denny remembered and of page 50 of that book. We added drum sticks in his left hand for effect.

I love the finished product and I think Linda did an outstanding job, she is truly talented and has major projects around the Sydney area. Linda was on the lookout for doing a sculpture of a rocker (as she calls it) and jumped at doing one of Dennis.

The sculpture stands proudly in my wall unit. ~ Tony Reeve, Australia
